August 2023 Paintings & Coloring
Project Progress, Fun with Copics & Other Markers, and Updates
This month’s creativity was a better and I experimented more with my alcohol markers. Then I remembered that I has this Coloring Book project that I was supposed to work on, so I worked a bit on that too. It’s going well and I’m happy with most of the drawings that I did. But I do want to do color samples of some of the actual pages for the book. So in September, I shall be doing that. I did a color sample of this month’s Alamere Falls. My friend sent me the picture of it. And one day I hope to get there after I get my feet in better shape. I have arthritis and plantar fasciitis in my feet that I working through. I’m finding that my recovery from surgery will take longer than I expected. The ankle feels mostly good but all of the other crap I did not expect. But enough about that here - I may go into it more in my blog.
This month’s painting were about experimentation. Clover and Rain was a doodle that turned into a painting. I did turn that into a coloring page and I’m probably going to paint that one over since it’s a a bit overdone. I put a ton of layers on it and it got a bit muddy to me. I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. These watercolors are almost like gouache, so after a so many layers it was hard to blend. Also in the coloring book page, I had added clover flowers so now I want to add them to the painting.
Mountain (Moleskine) is a color study with some new paints - the Daniel Smith Inspiration Palette. These colors are lovely and high quality. I like the fluid strokes in this painting and color story.
In Distant Mountain Sunset, I used my Derwent Inktense watercolor pencil set to see if I could get a mixed watercolor and pencil textured painting. I like how it turned out. In comparison to Clover and Rain, I do like using the entire area of the postcard rather than using a border.
And as I was finishing up Stone Night Galaxy, I was doubting the galaxy element in it. I quite did not like how it was looking until the end, I really have to trust the process because I do like how it ended.
