Gallery Show at Nola Nacular, New Orleans
September 2023 Paintings
My focus for this month was the gallery show that I was invited to in New Orleans. My cousin owns and runs an art gallery in the heart of New Orleans called Nola Nacular. October’s theme is a miniatures and there are 50+ artists are participating in the show. All the works are fantastic and I was very inspired by their work. There was a mix of painting styles, linocuts, ceramics, and even mini pies to eat.
My cousin, Anthony, did a great job setting up and installing the art. I helped him with this on Friday and Saturday. He does linocut art and photography. A lot of his photography documents hand painted storefront signs around New Orleans and the Cat’s Claw vine encrustation of abandoned homes. Check out his work at www.nolanacular.com and at his studio gallery at 1172 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
I painted five watercolor 4x4 inch pieces. Four of them were water themed and the other was an experimental sunset painting with very vivid colors with a black foreground. I wasn’t sure about Vivid Sunset but people gave it good feedback and liked it. The other paintings had softer tone with lots of small details. I used clip frames with a medium gray background to help pop the paintings. The original paintings and limited edition prints are at Nola Nacular for sale.
New Orleans was lovely but this was a short trip. I hope to go back there again and spend more time exploring its streets, restaurants and history.
